![]() ![]() I then pasted the code into the pico editor to see what was up and sure enough I was well over the 80 column limit. This is well within the 80 limit but once I try to compile i get the error about being over 80 columns. For instance if I have a line of code that is indented (tabbed) 6 times and there are 15 characters on the line after the tabs, in np++ the column count reads as 40. It seems the tab key in np++ uses less characters than what it does in the compiler. Now either I changed a setting in np++ or something else is wrong. To sort the NotePad based on the settings you entered, click OK. ![]() If you want to sub-total the NotePad, which subtotals based on the Reference numbers, select the Display sub-totals checkbox. the column count in np++ was the same as the compiler, so if np++ read 80 columns so did the compiler. If you want to do a multilevel sort, select the next column you want to sort by, then select either Ascending or Descending. I've used notepad++ for the past few semesters and had no issues ie. You'll see you can select an individual column or multiple columns by putting the cursor at the beginning of a column and holding down CTRL + SHIFT + END, and then pressing ALT + SHIFT and using. This difference may also effect sorting by using the Text FX 'at column' functionality, leading to strange, unexpected sort results. Sort is a standard Linux program that can sort a text file. In the Sort dialog box, you can select the options that you want to use for sorting the file. Once the file is open, click on the Edit menu and then click on the Sort option. If you exceed this it throws back a compiler error. At any position, the column position would be the same, regardless of whether you 'got' there by adding space characters of tab indents. If you want to sort a file on Notepad, you first have to open the file in Notepad. Copy the character that is used as a column delimiter (in the example above it is ) and select all rows. In Notepad++, select Plugins -> Plugin Manager and check the plugin to install: Restart Notepad++ when prompted. The compiler we use (from our school's unix server) has a hard 80 column/character limit. like in Excel), the plugin TextFX can be used. I use notepad++ to write my C++ programs for school.
